Land of the Free… Home of the Brave

Land of the Free... Home of the Brave

2 scores and 8 years ago, my father brought forth on this continent, a new son dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Over the Memorial Day weekend of 2016, I celebrated and reflected on my birthday along with reflecting about the sacrifices our service men and women have made over the years.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day coming out of the Civil War in 1868 until 1971 when it was changed over to Memorial Day. Though assassinated in 1865, Abraham Lincoln had already started the groundwork to recognize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country during battle.

This is why I decided to use my opening subtitle as an alteration of the Gettysburg Address. I believe that not only are all men are created equally, we are more powerful beyond measure.

The problem is that most people don’t know it or are unaware of it. However, we are only created equally in the end results that we desire love, peace of mind, happiness, contentment, respect, and appreciation. The power we possess to achieve these desires is all unique, and that’s what makes us as individuals so wonderful.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
Abraham Lincoln

It is our responsibility to stop letting the world decide who we are. The world as it is presented to us on TV shows, movies, and commercials is only for the purpose of making money and/or self-preservation. The media’s desire is not to help individuals at all.

It is our job to teach children to say no to mediocrity. Being good is not good enough. We can’t allow them to live and make decisions as if the world exists only to help them live his or her life. We have to teach kids to be confident and have a strong self-esteem. Not only is it O.K. to not win all the time, but the occasional failures will be the strength and foundation of his or her success. When we struggle it may seem like it comes from outside sources, politics, family, economy or work, but it’s not. We struggle because early in our lives we quickly fall into conditioning to settle.

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."
Abraham Lincoln

So what does one have to do to live a good life?

Well, if you are living in the United States of America and reading this, you have to be aware and grateful for where you live. The United States is definitely not perfect and unified as we should be. But, to live here with the freedoms and capitalist choices that we have are tremendous compared to the rest of the world.

There are people who are risking their lives to come here. Those who do come here are just soaking up our education and money to send back to their home countries.

We who live here daily squander opportunities that were given to us at the time we were born. In the “Land of the free”, it sure is costing you a lot to have such emotional choices to things that don’t really matter in the big scheme of the world and your life.

What is the second thing you have to do to have a good life?

Move to what makes you uncomfortable. Most likely whatever is uncomfortable to you is what you mostly likely need to do and face to live a good life. What controls your attention controls your life.

For most of us what’s controlling our attention are the wrong things or the things that really don’t matter. I realize that some of us think we are struggling. But, struggling compared to what?

  • Most of us don’t have to wonder where our next meal is coming from.
  • Most of us don’t have to worry about dying from a common cold.
  • Most of us don’t have to bathe and drink from the same waterhole as the farm animals.
  • Most of us don’t have to worry about mortar shells being dropped on our schools, places of worships, hospitals, and homes.

Get out of your own way! Today! Decide that your home is the “home of the brave!” You don’t have to make drastic changes all in one day, but make some change today. Be bold. Be brave. Today is the time to make that move in the direction you were designed to move in.

Remember that you are more powerful beyond measure. The world will never see it unless you realize you are in the land of the free and create a home of the brave.
